Windfarms in Rhondda Valley
Taff Ely Windfarm, Gilfach Goch
Consists of 20 Nordtank(NTK500) wind turbines that were built in 1993. As of 2016 the windfarm had its 20th anniversary. South Wales’ oldest Windfarm!
Pant y Wal Windfarm, Clydach Vale
Consists of 21 Nordex N90 wind turbines that were built in 2013. There have been discussions of an extention being installed on the current site where the 21 turbines are operating. The project will take place on the Eastern side of the windfarm.
Consists of 8 Siemens 101m 3MW turbines, which are gearless wind turbines, and can operate in low-wind conditions. Operational since early 2014.
Mynedd Gelli Wind Turbine
There is approximately 1 wind turbine operating on the mountainside of Gelli in the Rhondda Valleys, manufactured by EWT. It has been operational since early 2016, was built in December 2015.
** There is currently a large wind turbine project taking place on the Rhigos Mountain to build the Pen y Cymoedd wind farm which will consist of 74 wind turbines manufactured by Vattenfall Energy of Sweden**
